Hello and welcome to my website. I am a graduate student at HBU working on my master’s degree in Education with a focus on technology. I have a very diverse educational background. I graduated high school from Stone Mountain High School and graduated from college at Georgia State University with a Bachelor’s degree in English. Reading and writing is a passion of mine and working to help students gain an understanding is a big reward for me. My teaching career began in Atlanta, GA. I worked for a non-profit organization called The Study Hall which is an after school program for one of the most poverty-stricken neighborhoods. Students who attended the schools in this area were not receiving quality education. The teachers gave up on them without realizing that these students want an education not judgment. I worked with the middle and high school students. I worked with them on writing and reading comprehension. They did very well. I worked at a summer school at Clark Atlanta University for high school students who failed the state assessment in reading. I worked with them on the different standards where I saw the students struggling. After this experience, I realized what direction my life needed to go in. I wanted to become a teacher. I moved to Houston in 2003 to begin working on my teaching certification, which I did and became a certified English teacher. My first year of teaching was done at Patrick Henry Middle School and I taught 7th grade Reading. It was a good introduction into the world of teaching. It helped me to realize that the picture the ACP programs present are not accurate enough to help new teachers transition into the world of teaching. However, after this year I knew that teaching was for me. I spent the remaining seven years of my career at Cunningham Middle School in Galena Park where I taught 8th grade English. I enjoyed every minute I spent teaching. Yes, I did have behavioral students, but once they realized that I do care about them and I want to help them they calmed down and became serious about their education. Now, when I see some of my students they thank me for teaching them. I now teach at George Bush High School, and I am a 9th grade English teacher. It has been a year of growth and learning. I look forward to learning more as a student and as an educator.
